Generally speaking, counseling focuses on healing the wounds of the past, while mentoring provides expert advice and solutions for your present challenges. Coaching, however, provides personal and professional growth with your future in view.
What is Coaching?
Pastoral ministry is inherently challenging. Leadership in a multiethnic ministry context is exponentially more difficult. The reality is no pastor or team needs to go through it alone. Multiethnic ministry coaching is for any pastor or a team of leaders who desire personal and relational wellbeing and maturity in a multiethnic environment.

What does it look like to be your authentic self in an ethnically and culturally diverse ministry setting?
What is one new skill you want to develop to be an effective multiethnic ministry leader?
What are the unique abilities, gifts, and resources God has given your team for your multiethnic work?
What is one big limiting belief of your multiethnic team?
What does a flourishing multiethnic ministry look like for your team?
Utilizing the Five Dimensions of Wellbeing Model, we can explore such questions together in our coaching conversations as thinking partners.
Flourishing in Ministry Model
Ministry of the Gospel and Coaching
In his teaching ministry to both Jews and Gentiles, Jesus often asked questions to help people (leaders, followers, doubters) think about what is true of him (Mk. 8:27-29), what is true of themselves (Mt. 6:25), and what is true about their life situation (Mt. 6:30). He used questions to draw out their heart’s deep desires (Mt. 20:29); grow their faith (Jn. 6:5); challenge their doubts (Lk. 24:38), their commitment (Lk. 6:46), and their pursuits (Mk. 8:36-37); ease their worries and anxious thoughts (Lk. 12:25-26); correct their historical patterns of ethnocentrism (Lk. 10:26); and elicit insights about true leadership (Jn. 13:21).
How did Jesus provide personal and professional growth with his gospel truth? Where do we see aspects of (what we call today) “coaching” in Jesus’ training of his disciples?

Paul also made intentional use of questioning in his letters to help believers think through the implications of the gospel. Such gospel-renewal process was essential to equip believers of different backgrounds to love and serve others well in their multiethnic church context (i.e., Gal. 2:14; Rom. 3:29, 8:31-32).
Jesus (and Paul) spent time helping believers break through their limiting beliefs with God’s eternal truth in order to cultivate a growth mindset for their lives in the service of his kingdom. The questions pointed to the blessings that flow from God’s grace and truths that are necessary for one’s maturity and ministry to people of different backgrounds.
Through the use of thoughtful questions, coaching aims to serve a similar purpose in the lives of ministry leaders.

Through brief yet transformational coaching conversations, I can be a thinking parter that helps you (and your team) discover new insights, break through limiting beliefs, and develop a growth mindset for ministry. As a Flourishing in Ministry certified coach, it would give me deep joy to see you flourish as a leader and your team in multiethnic ministry.
